The pandemic has hit the globe like a slow, never-ending wrecking ball. It has definitely been an unpredictable set of years, which left all of us scrambling. And the fight is not yet over. It is now more important than ever to actively look after your health, physical and mental. While vaccinations bring a fresh ray of hope, it is still important to adopt a healthy lifestyle and do your bit, to not only keep yourself healthy, but keep others around you safe as well. Along with maintaining social distance at all times, wearing masks, sanitizing and staying indoors as much as possible, there has to be a balance in the diet. Striking a balance between physical and mental health is of utmost importance.

Here are a few healthy lifestyle tips that might help you in these trying times.

Exercise

Working from home means staying glued to the laptop screen for hours at a stretch, with breaks in between which most probably involve doom scrolling through your smaller screen. The constant exposure to the screen while sitting in one place means little to almost no exercise. Physical activity is very important, especially now when we are at home. Ensuring some kind of movement can lead to impressive results, not only for your body but also for your mind. It could be any kind of physical activity, running in one place for 10 minutes, taking a short walk in the building complex if it is safe, meditating, or simply exercising at home. There are no stringent instructions as long as you involve some physical activity in your daily routine, you are good to go.

Eat More Greens and Hydrate

All of us have heard of and learnt about a balanced diet. And, with the pandemic, it is important to ensure that you consciously incorporate greens, lentils and other vitamins and minerals into your diet to ensure a healthy immune system. A healthy immune system will help you fight any symptoms, be it cold, cough or fever. In addition to this, drink loads of water. Keep a bottle next to your work desk to ensure constant hydration.

Take Short Breaks

With working from home becoming a norm, boundaries have become virtually non-existent, with work going on for hours past the normal working duration. It is easy to neglect your mental well-being along with physical exercise, in such a situation. However, it is significant to take a break and to let your brain relax. For a few minutes in between work and your daily routine, it is imperative that you set aside some time to switch off all devices and just be. The breaks could be as small as 5 minutes dispersed throughout the day or could be as long as an hour a day. Along with your physical well-being, it is important to take care of your mental health as well. And stepping away from all devices for a few minutes might help that.

Step Away From The News

In the current scenario, we are constantly being bombarded with headlines about the virus, while simultaneously social media mirrors the same. It is impossible to not think about COVID when we are basically living and breathing it. And as much as it is important to be up to date with the news, the guidelines and the restrictions while trying to help anyone in need, it is also important to take a step back, even if it’s only for a few minutes, to ensure that the news doesn’t take a toll on your health. Constant distress that comes as a prerequisite with the news can also affect your health adversely. Hence, switch off the television set for a while, and turn off social media, and take care of yourself.

Pick Up A Hobby

The upside to the world being home is the increase in virtual classes. You can now be connected to anyone in the world, and pursue something that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Pick up something you haven’t done before, or reconnect with your roots. Sign up for that virtual dance class, start painting again, and do anything that you have always wanted to do. There is time and means! Set aside a few minutes in a day, or alternate days or a week, as your schedule permits, and indulge in activities apart from work.

Stay In Touch

Staying connected with your loved ones is also important. Regardless of if you are isolating, living alone or with someone, talking to your family, friends, partners might always help. While in-person meetings and hangouts may not be possible right now, video call sessions, virtual parties, and online celebrations just might be the thing you need to take your mind off things. Stay in touch – virtually – and stay safe.

The virus doesn’t seem to be wanting to leave anytime soon, hence your health is of utmost importance right now. Along with adhering to the pre-existing COVID norms, go the extra mile and take care of yourself. Stay indoors, eat well and stay safe.
