December is around the corner, this means 2 things. One, it’s the month of amazing weather. I mean hot chocolates, snuggly blankets, layering, come on, you gotta love winters! Wait, wait, for all you winter-haters out there, December approaching also means something else, 2020 is about to end, finally! What a rollercoaster this year has been. If there was a hall of fame of unpredictable years, 2020 would literally be on top.

Jokes apart, everyone is eagerly looking forward to the new year, new beginnings, clean slate, more so, this year. But how is it fair to not enjoy the last month of 2020, end the year with a bang? I mean, with what all of us have collectively gone through, all of us deserve that much. With Christmas around the corner and New Year’s, and well, winters, it is time to let loose, obviously, with precautions. Make the most of the amazing weather, head over to North, the land of snow-clad mountains, beautiful winters, and home to my personal recommendation, Ranikhet.

Literally meaning ‘Queen’s Meadow’, legend says, King Sudhardev built a palace for Queen Padmini, who was absolutely taken by the pure beauty of it, and thus the name, Ranikhet. A tiny hill station hidden in the heart of Uttarakhand, away from the constant buzzing of the city, Ranikhet is located at 1829 metres above sea level. Offering some of the best views of the snow-capped Himalayas, more so in December, this town is all things calming, relaxing and serene, the perfect recipe for a much-needed break.

While offering a panoramic view of the majestic mountains, Ranikhet is also home to one of the best hilly golf grounds with 9 holes. Regardless of whether you are an amateur or a regular golfer, the experience at Ranikhet will be like no other. Hosting one of the most beautiful orchards, Chaubatia Gardens that is spread over 600 acres, is ideal for a snuggly walk in your coat. The surroundings are sure to put you in a merry mood, and the hot maggi served in the canteen is just what you need to make your evening even merrier!

Among a museum on Mahatma Gandhi’s life, Ranikhet is also popular among the devotees. Home to multiple divine temples, Ranikhet is an ideal combination of sweet and fun. Moreover, December is the ideal time to visit Ranikhet. For all the snow-lovers, Ranikhet in December-January guarantees snowfall, and accompanied by snow-peaked Himalayan views, it just doesn’t get better.

Now, that you are convinced to set your dates, here’s something to make your planning easier. Stay is not an issue while here. Some of the most amazing holiday homes are scattered throughout Ranikhet. Nestled in tiny nooks and corners, Ranikhet is home to some of the most scenic and cosy villas on rent, ideal to bring in a quiet or a fun-filled snowy Christmas and new year’s!

More often than not, tourists, especially the ones who want to get a taste of everything, do not wish to stick to one place, but experience a lot more. If you wish to explore a little more of Uttarakhand, don’t worry we have got you covered. Located just 2 hour drive away from Ranikhet stands Bhimtal. Also one of the hidden gems, this villa rental located in Bhimtal is just what you need to take a break from the constant chaos of the city. Equipped with 3 cosy bedrooms, it is ideal for a small getaway. Decembers can get extremely chilly, but don’t you worry, this holiday home comes equipped with a steam and sauna room.
