As the country gradually eases lockdown restrictions, people are craving for an excursion close to home. Local travel has become the new way of spending your summer holidays and a perfect way to seek both safety and privacy. Those of you who wish to travel in and around Maharashtra require an ePass to cross city/state limits. Don’t worry, it is not a boring or lengthy process, and here’s everything you need to know about how to apply for an ePass online.

Where can I apply for an ePass?

The Maharashtra Government has set up an extremely easy-to-use, bilingual website for ePass applications: https://covid19.mhpolice.in/

  • Aadhar Card (pdf version)
  • Driving Licence (pdf version)
  • RC Book of the Vehicle (pdf version)
  • A valid doctor certificate/medical certificate/fitness certificate  (Size Limit: 1 MB)

You will then be redirected to either an Intra-State form or Inter-State Travel form. The application will require mandatory details such as destination address, vehicle details, contact information, purpose of visit, and whether you are traveling from a containment zone.

You can directly upload your supporting documents on the website. Certain instances may require you to upload the documents in a zip folder, so please check the instructions before uploading.

What is the procedure to apply for an ePass?

Once you select the ‘Apply For Pass Here’ option, it will lead you to a follow-up question asking you if you will be traveling outside of Maharashtra or not. Based on your answer, you will be redirected to the form page wherein you will be expected to fill out all your travel details, including the number of people you are traveling with, and upload the relevant documents. Fill out all the mandatory (and optional) information required and finish the application with the submission of your documents.

How soon can I expect a response to my e-Pass application?

After successfully submitting your application, a reference number will be generated. Please make a note of it in order to keep a track of your application status.

If you are applying for an e-Pass from Mumbai City, you will get a response within 24 hours of your application, stating whether your request has been Accepted OR Rejected. If you are applying from Thane, Kalyan, Badlapur, Panvel or surrounding areas, you can expect a response within 6 hours of your ePass application.

What are the best places to travel to after I receive my ePass?

Now that you have a valid ePass, you can travel to any part of Maharashtra, but it is advisable to refrain from visiting crowded places. The best option will be to choose a private villa, holiday home or vacation rental that offers utmost privacy, comfort and excellent hygiene standards.
